Powerful, elegant, and exclusive, the Mercedes-Benz 300 was considered the top of line in luxury and performance for its time.

Introduced at the 1951 Frankfurt Motorshow, its only close competitor and rival the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, however the Silver Cloud lacked in comparison with performance. Available as a cabriolet or saloon, just under 12,200 luxury vehicles were manufactured with majority being the saloon.

Consumers enjoyed the streamlined lines and styling coupled with the Mercedes-Benz dependability. Featuring a privacy glass partition, dictation machine, and mobile telephone, the 300 was a favorite of politicians and business leaders. Added features also included sirens, sunroofs, and writing desks.

The 300 and the M300 SL Gullwing shared several design and engineering components including engine, chassis, and suspension. With it’s X-shaped steel tube frame and independent suspension motorists enjoyed an agile driving experience.

FUN FACT: Also known as the ‘Adenauer’ after the Chancellor of Germany, Konrad Adenauer who owned six custom 300s.
